I\u2019ll have thoughts on the film when I post the review later this week.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rue-morgue.com\/magazine\/latest-issue\" target=\"_blank\">Rue Morgue\u2019s March issue<\/a>\u00a0should be rolling out shortly, and my reviews for The Laze\u2019s <strong>Phantom of the Opera<\/strong> (One Way Static Records) and Chris Bacon\u2019s music for the series <strong>Bates Motel <\/strong>(Varese Sarabande) are within its hallowed pages.<\/p>\n<p>Just uploaded are reviews for a pair of supernatural thrillers, of which the first has been expanded from the prior Rue Morgue version.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/AudreyRose_BR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10850\" alt=\"AudreyRose_BR\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/AudreyRose_BR.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=10836\">Audrey Rose<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(1977) is one of those movies horror fans will either find slow, overlong, and saddled with a nuanced performance by a child actress; or a forgotten gem directed by a veteran how knows where to place his scares, and how bone-chilling cold they should be.<\/p>\n<p>Twilight Time\u2019s Blu-ray sports a sharp HD transfer and an isolated music track of Michael Small\u2019s eerie score, and the film\u2019s arguably Robert Wise\u2019s last good feature film before the debacle that was <strong>Star Trek: The Motion Picture<\/strong> (1979) hindered further work for a long, <em>long <\/em>time.<\/p>\n<p>(STTMP was a sensation among younger fans, and although it\u2019s become a beloved sci-fi classic, that nostalgia for the film \u2013 of which I\u2019m guilty of possessing \u2013 doesn\u2019t hide the fact the film wasn\u2019t ready for release, the script was undercooked, the dialogue is awful, and William Shatner gives the worst performance of his career, aided by a curly perm and a mighty belt buckle.)<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Our second thriller is a completely delightful surprise from One 7 Movies. Yes, the print source leaves much to be desired and it\u2019s been retitled for its home video release, but apparently Carlos Mayolo\u2019s highly political thriller has never been available in North America, at least on DVD.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/BloodyFlesh1983.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10847\" alt=\"BloodyFlesh1983\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/BloodyFlesh1983.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"169\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=10603\">Bloody Flesh \/ aka Carne de tu carne <\/a><\/strong>(1983), is a rare Columbian film, and the kind of arty cinema I would\u2019ve loathed 25 years ago, but time changes tastes, and perhaps because there is a relatively linear story, there\u2019s meat to the skeleton of this very strange, political, atmospheric work that\u2019s stems from a director better known for short documentaries and occasional film performances.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll have another set of reviews mid-week as I wrap up editing a podcast with composer Craig Safan, and I\u2019ll have links to a blog at <a href=\"http:\/\/bigheadamusements.com\/wordpress\/\" target=\"window\">Big Head Amusements<\/a> regarding the making of and uploading of <strong>Liquid Puppetry<\/strong>, a short film completed in 2014 that\u2019s rather trippy.
