For Rue Morgue\u2019s current October <\/a>issue, where Psycho<\/strong> is saluted for being 50 years young & still grisly, I posed three questions to a number of composer specially contacted for the article.<\/p>\n

The final piece contains several quotes, but there were further details, opinions, and some digressions that obviously didn\u2019t fit the retro\u2019s purview, so I divided the transcripts from the Q&As into three parts, of which two have already run.<\/p>\n

However, before you choose to dig into the pieces, let me direct your attention first to James Burrell\u2019s blog<\/a> on Psycho<\/strong> memorabilia (and take a good look at that beautiful Belgian poster \u2013 much more attractive than the North American campaign).<\/p>\n

Part 1<\/a> of our Q&As with composers has comments from Elia Cmiral (Splinter<\/a><\/strong>), Daniel Licht (Dexter<\/a><\/strong>), and John Frizzell (Whiteout<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n

Part 2<\/a> features comments from Austin Wintory (Grace<\/a><\/strong>), Michael Wandmacher (Piranha 3D<\/a><\/strong>).<\/p>\n

In Part 3 \u2013 to be uploaded around Monday, closing out this Psycho<\/strong>-themed month \u2013 I\u2019ll focus solely on a discussion with Christopher Young (Drag Me to Hell<\/a><\/strong>), and maybe a few other goodies.<\/p>\n

Those wanting to experience Psycho<\/strong> on the big screen can do so via the TIFF Bell Lightbox, where a cleaned up version of the film will have an exclusive run, starting today<\/a>!<\/em>. I\u2019ve seen the print and heard the new Dolby Digital 5.1 mix, and I\u2019ve blogged about what to expect<\/a> when you see it in theatres this weekend, or on Universal\u2019s new Blu-ray edition.<\/p>\n

This past Sunday I caught a live performance of Michael Nyman\u2019s NYman with a Movie Camera<\/strong>, accompanied by the composer leading the Michael Nyman Band.<\/p>\n

In a nutshell: Nyman composed an original score to Dziga Vertov\u2019s Man with a Movie Camera<\/strong> (1929), and then edited an original film patterned after the structure of Vertov\u2019s movie, and set to his score. The NYman<\/strong> footage comes from the composer\u2019s own archives, and the resulting film is really, really<\/em> good.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll have a review of the Vertov film, Nyman\u2019s film, and notes on the DVD versions out there this weekend.<\/p>\n
