{"id":11755,"date":"2015-07-03T13:14:20","date_gmt":"2015-07-03T17:14:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=11755"},"modified":"2015-07-03T13:14:20","modified_gmt":"2015-07-03T17:14:20","slug":"shes-beautiful-when-shes-angry-2014-chisholm-72-2004","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=11755","title":{"rendered":"She&#8217;s Beautiful When She&#8217;s Angry (2014) + Chisholm &#8217;72 (2004)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ShesBeautifulWhenShesAngry_poster.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11754\" alt=\"ShesBeautifulWhenShesAngry_poster\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/ShesBeautifulWhenShesAngry_poster.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>Opening tomorrow at the <a href=\"http:\/\/boxoffice.hotdocs.ca\/WebSales\/pages\/info.aspx?evtinfo=42040~fff311b7-cdad-4e14-9ae4-a9905e1b9cb0&amp;epguid=6395d239-7dd9-47d4-a22f-81a783873e12&amp;\" target=\"_blank\">Bloor Hot Docs Cinema<\/a> is Mary Dore&#8217;s great doc on the women&#8217;s movement, which runs throughout July and should offer several generations a mass of information that rarely circulates in the mainstream media except as maybe sound-bites or Wikipedia links in blogs and op-eds.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=11753\"><strong>She&#8217;s Beautiful When She&#8217;s Angry<\/strong><\/a> (2014) is filled with interviews and archival footage, but its biggest draw is seeing the degree of change that emanated from the stubborn actions of ordinary people. Read from a more contemporary vantage: if you disagree with bad policy, bad leadership, bad laws, and can&#8217;t tolerate rot in government, you have to act and be relentless, although the doc closes with a statement (quoted in my review) which sums up the permanence of any law &#8211; hard-won victories can be eroded through slight legislation and restrictions, and if there&#8217;s no mechanism to control, let alone an awareness of what&#8217;s happening, freedoms and rights one cherishes can be significantly reduced.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Chisholm72.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11759\" alt=\"Chisholm72\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Chisholm72.gif\" width=\"125\" height=\"178\" \/><\/a>Paired with Dore&#8217;s prescient film is a doc I reviewed back in 2005. Shirley Chisholm was profiled in a great doc by Shola Lynch, <a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=11758\"><strong>Chisholm 72: Unbought &amp; Unbossed<\/strong><\/a> (2004), released on DVD by Fox. Chisholm appears fleetingly in Dore&#8217;s film, and I figured spotlighting Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to the U.S. Senate and her 1972 Presidential campaign, made sense.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark R.
