Just posted is another pair of Frank Sinatra classics: two underrated and very distinct WWII dramas from 1958 featuring some of Sinatra’s\u00a0finest work.<\/p>\n

Uh-oh! ‘Dweevels in duh Zone!’<\/p><\/div>\n

Twilight Time offers up the Delmer Daves-directed Kings Go Forth<\/a><\/strong>, where Sinatra seethes with jealousy as Tony Curtis woos Natalie Wood during the final years of WWII, while Warner Home Video released Some Came Running<\/a> <\/strong>several years ago on DVD in a transfer that mandates a HD overhaul.<\/p>\n

Based on the novel by James Jones (From Here to Eternity<\/strong>, The Thin Red Line<\/strong>), the Vincent Minnelli-directed Running<\/strong> has Sinatra falling for a literary teacher when he returns from war to the home town he just loathes.<\/p>\n

Both films feature stellar casts and represent different levels of classic fifties melodrama.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m currently finishing up on a review of the American Martyrs<\/strong> remake, as last night\u2019s show of Defending the Caveman<\/strong> was cancelled, hence no review. I will make one suggestion directly<\/em> to the show\u2019s producers: it takes little effort to post a simple \u2018Due to unforeseen circumstances\u2019 cancellation notice on Facebook and Twitter, a ploy that prevents puzzled patrons and media from travelling to a shuttered theatre and waiting in minus -15 degrees.<\/p>\n
