Pakula&#8217;s Revisionist Western: Comes a Horseman (1978)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The intended posting and blog today were originally going to be designed around Richard Farnsworth, the veteran stunt performer whose Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in <a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=15758\"><strong>Comes a Horseman<\/strong><\/a> (1978) inarguably boosted his profile as a character actor, and made him perfect for\u00a0<strong>The Grey Fox <\/strong>(1982).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15767\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/GreyFox1982_poster.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"563\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/GreyFox1982_poster.jpg 350w, https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/GreyFox1982_poster-187x300.jpg 187w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Farnsworth was a fine actor with a great, likeable screen persona and a face, voice, and nuances the camera loved. He was an unlikely star who often played smaller roles after these two films, but returned for the lead in David Lynch\u2019s <strong>The Straight Story<\/strong> (1999) before cancer claimed his health, and he claimed\u00a0his own life by gunshot in 2000.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15769\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/RichardFarnsworth.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"271\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/RichardFarnsworth.jpg 600w, https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/RichardFarnsworth-300x163.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/>Horseman<\/strong>, new on Blu from Twilight Time, makes for a great intro to that rare breed of character actors that used to populate studio productions in the 1950s and 1960s &#8211; the men and women who drifted between film and TV, playing \u2018no minor roles\u2019 and endearing themselves to multiple generations of film fans.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, <strong>The\u00a0Grey Fox<\/strong>, as is typical of Canadian films, is not available domestically. There&#8217;s a German Region 2 DVD of reportedly adequate quality, but nothing on this side of the pond, but come April 19th,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/canadianfilmday.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\">National Canadian Film Day<\/a>, I&#8217;ll have a film review and some interesting related material to argue the long-running need \/ urgency to get this CanCon classic commercially available on home video in its home and native land.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark R.
