{"id":17164,"date":"2017-12-21T13:01:44","date_gmt":"2017-12-21T18:01:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=17164"},"modified":"2018-01-02T01:09:04","modified_gmt":"2018-01-02T06:09:04","slug":"the-gorgeous-ladies-of-wrestling-season-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=17164","title":{"rendered":"The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, Season 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-17165\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Glow_header_pix.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Glow_header_pix.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Glow_header_pix-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Glow_header_pix-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Glow_header_pix-600x400.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Although I searched far &amp; wide, I couldn\u2019t find some key vintage camera footage that was intended to relate to a more filmic blog post tied to my review of <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=17098\">GLOW: Season 1<\/a><\/strong>, Netflix\u2019s superb production based on the 1986 show Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling in which non-pros were hired for a series that became a cult hit, and pushed the boundaries of a sport\u2019s entertainment value with extreme ring personas.<\/p>\n<p>As of this writing, Netflix\u2019s series remains an exclusive \u2013 i.e., it ain&#8217;t on DVD \u2013 but perhaps in light of the (still Target exclusive) release of <a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=16970\"><strong>Stranger Things<\/strong><\/a> on a Blu-ray-DVD combo edition, maybe the show might find an extended life on a physical format when Season 2 debuts.<\/p>\n<p>The review gives an overview of the show which boasts one of the most perfect pilots I\u2019ve seen in years, and near the end of the piece there&#8217;s a link to a blog at my filmmaking site on the use of a vintage camera that\u2019s not quite accurate.<\/p>\n<p>You can <a href=\"http:\/\/bigheadamusements.com\/wordpress\/?p=2606\" target=\"window\">jump to the piece<\/a> at Big Head Amusements ahead of reading the review proper \u2013 there\u2019s no spoiler material \u2013 but it\u2019s one of those circumstances when someone (in this case, me) notices a continuity gaffe that needs to be called out. On this occasion, it\u2019s a camera used as a camcorder, and while quite retentive, you could argue the slip shows how hard it is for a show&#8217;s prop team to get period details right, and how some compromises are inevitable when there are wardrobe, differing sets, vehicles, music, and language that need proofing &amp; vetting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark R.
