The first 5 cuts are source songs, followed by a short vocal clip by actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost<\/strong>\u2019s Mr. Eko), and the rest of Lakeshore\u2019s album contains Clint Mansell\u2019s score \u2013 a decent 33 mins. worth.<\/p>\n

Faster<\/strong> is a straight, lean, mean revenge film, and the represented cues mostly attack specific moments or emotional states. The brief \u201cTen Year Stretch\u201d quotes the 3-note theme that captures the anti-hero\u2019s seething rage about to explore, and cues such as \u201cHistory Lesson\u201d are simple combat cues, where Mansell employs a grungy guitar and wooden percussion.<\/p>\n

\u201cPredators & Prey\u201d has an amorphous start, but the 7 minute cue slowly builds to a climactic finale, with the main theme eventually moving to the foreground with percussion, and twisting into more strained harmonics before a percussive finale. A similarly lengthy variation (\u201cHospital Visit\u201d) makes heavy use of the theme, but adds contrast with piano, electric guitar, and diverse percussion before a straight rock beat leads into the combative \u201cThe Driver Drives,\u201d with a steady kinetic rhythm.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn a Mission\u201d covers the same revenge path as the prior cuts, although it concludes with a final theme statement that fades into \u201cRedemption,\u201d the CD\u2019s end cut that builds to an unresolved chord.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s obvious Mansell\u2019s score was meant to work with source cues, and while it\u2019s functional, it lacks the edge and density more typical of Paul Haslinger (of which Shoot \u2018Em Up<\/strong> and Vacancy<\/strong> and mean little beauties).<\/p>\n
