{"id":2958,"date":"2011-05-24T21:15:55","date_gmt":"2011-05-25T01:15:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/?p=2013"},"modified":"2011-05-24T21:15:55","modified_gmt":"2011-05-25T01:15:55","slug":"soundtrack-reviews-news-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=2958","title":{"rendered":"Soundtrack Reviews + News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/CompactDisc_image_s.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-741\" title=\"CompactDisc_image_s\" src=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/CompactDisc_image_s.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a>It\u2019s the day after Victoria Day,\u00a0which means most Canadians\u00a0spent the long weekend (or part of it) BBQ\u2019ing things, consuming cold beer, and at some point watching firecrackers illuminate the sky.<\/p>\n<p>The same set of events (goosed with plenty of flag-waving)\u00a0is done Canada Day July 1st, but Victoria Day \u2013 in honour of Queen Victoria (Becky to her best friends) \u2013 really marks the beginning of the summer-ish season.<\/p>\n<p>So far, the weather\u2019s been good, making up for the week-long rainfall that\u2019s been an annoyance to gardeners and Torontonians hungry for something called &#8216;dry sunlight.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, I ate a big dinner in Thornhill with friends, after which we watched imported U.S. fireworks go boom for\u00a0half an hour. Couldn\u2019t tell if the pyrotechnics were more robust than the Canuckle variety, but things did crack, bang and boom a lot, often in multiple patterns, colours, altitudes, with screeching effects.<\/p>\n<p>The show concluded with a burning firehouse set piece.\u00a0Apparently the activity of burning a small cardboard school house is now illegal here; it&#8217;s been rebranded as something like\u00a0\u2018flaming old barn\u2019\u00a0because\u00a0bureaucrats believe the activity\u00a0plants the evil pyro seed in kids.<\/p>\n<p>When the <em>American<\/em> school house\u00a0was lit, the kids excitedly flocked to the edges to watch\u00a0it go poof.\u00a0 I assume\u00a0the generic Canadian\u00a0\u2018flaming old barn\u2019 would\u2019ve elicited more of a \u2018meh\u2019 from the kids.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* * *<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday marks the beginnning of a standard work week, so I&#8217;ve uploaded a trio of soundtrack reviews:<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/s\/CD_0291_SymphonicCelticAlbum.htm\">The Symphonic Celtic Album<\/a><\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=2953\">M<\/a>]\u00a0is a Silva Screen&#8217;s deliberately calming re-recording of familiar film themes with a Celtic bent, whereas La-La Land&#8217;s latest limited CD offerings feature a pair of filmic newcomers &#8211; Kristopher Carter&#8217;s score for the film version of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/v2z\/CD_0292_YesterdayWasALie.htm\"><strong>Yesterday Was a Lie<\/strong> <\/a>[<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=2948\">M<\/a>], and Abel Korzeniowski&#8217;s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/c\/CD_0293_CopernicusStar.htm\">Copernicus&#8217; Star<\/a><\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=2943\">M<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">* * *<\/p>\n<p>In the realm of film music news, a recent discussion on Film Score Monthly&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.filmscoremonthly.com\/board\/posts.cfm?threadID=79280&amp;forumID=1&amp;archive=0\" >message board<\/a> reveals their recent <strong>Star Trek<\/strong> \/ Ron Jones project boxed set is available as downloadable separate albums, via Amazon.com, eMusic, and iTunes.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently the licensing of the FSM catalogue isn&#8217;t going to go broader &#8211; the label generally goes for CD-only releases, and this exception may have been due to the overwhelming global fan base of anything <strong>Star Trek<\/strong>. It&#8217;s also a good way for the label to expose itself (so to speak) to genre and franchise fans, and give Jones&#8217; profile a nice boost.<\/p>\n<p>I still like the digital + CD models being used by the major soundtrack labels, but it would be nice if those fast-selling, limited CDs are usually earmarked by producers for future digital editions.
