\"\"<\/a>As promised another set of soundtrack reviews: Lalo Schifrin’s jazzy The Liquidator<\/a><\/strong> [M<\/a>] (FSM), Fred Katz’ modernist \/ jazz score for the original 1960 The Little Shop of Horrors<\/a><\/strong> [M<\/a>] (Krizterland), Michael Small’s underrated gem The Postman Always Rings Twice<\/a><\/strong> [M<\/a>] (Intrada), and from La-La Land Records comes Henry Mancini’s Mommie Dearest<\/a><\/strong> [M<\/a>] and Jerry Goldsmith’s Warning Shot<\/a><\/strong> [M<\/a>] – the latter a real treat, featuring the original score + Sy Zentner’s stereo re-recording in bouncy-bouncy Liberty stereo.<\/p>\n

Sad news of the day: composer Marvin Hamlisch has passed away at the age of 68 – a young age for a gifted songwriter & composer. If I can squeeze them in this week’s schedule, I’ll have a few reviews of his best film work, including the cult favourite, The Swimmer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Upbeat news: Intrada just announced their new limited release of Bernard Herrmann’s North by Northwest<\/strong>, mastered from better elements than the prior (older) Rhino CD. In September, France’s Music Box Records will release Mama Dracula<\/strong> (1980), one of Roy Budd’s final scores. Not that it’ll happen, but it would be nice if someone (Silva Screen?) would release Budd’s still unheard, locked up score for the classic Phantom of the Opera<\/a><\/strong>, which was reportedly slated for release by EMI prior to his death in 1993.<\/p>\n
