{"id":5882,"date":"2012-12-07T15:51:26","date_gmt":"2012-12-07T20:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/?p=3604"},"modified":"2012-12-07T15:51:26","modified_gmt":"2012-12-07T20:51:26","slug":"soundtrack-reviews-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5882","title":{"rendered":"Soundtrack Reviews"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/CompactDisc_image_s.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-863\" title=\"CompactDisc_image_s\" src=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/CompactDisc_image_s.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a>Uploaded are another set of soundtrack reviews:<\/p>\n<p>From Monstrous Movie Music comes Ernest Gold\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/s\/CD_0412_ShipOfFools1965.htm\">Ship of  Fools<\/a><\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5862\">M<\/a>] (1965), a more  unusual work featuring score and original source cues for Stanley Kramer\u2019s  drama.<\/p>\n<p>La-La Land\u2019s offerings include <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/s\/CD_0411_Shane1953.htm\">Shane <\/a><\/strong>[<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5857\">M<\/a>] (1953), featuring a sold offering  of Victor Young\u2019s dramatic score; J.S. Zamecnik\u2019s score for <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/v2z\/CD_0413_Wings1927.htm\">Wings <\/a><\/strong>[<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5875\">M<\/a>] (1927), newly restored for  Paramount\u2019s anniversary Blu-ray &amp; DVD; and Dimitri Tiomkin\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/f\/CD_0410_FallRomanEmpire.htm\">The Fall  of the Roman Empire<\/a><\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5832\">M<\/a>] (1964),  featuring more music than the older Cloud Nine CD.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve also added Franz Waxman\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/cd_lp_reviews\/c\/CD_0409_CrimeInTheStreets.htm\">Crime  in the Streets<\/a><\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5828\">M<\/a>] (1956),  originally released by Decca, reissued by Entr\u2019acte, and finally reissued on CD  by Varese Sarabande\u2019s CD Club a few years ago. It\u2019s one of the best fusions of  orchestra &amp; jazz from the fifties by a composer not rooted in jazz, but  blessed with excellent instincts for improv. It\u2019s a really beautiful work that\u2019s  lost none of its luster.<\/p>\n<p>Because some of the aforementioned soundtrack reviews  mandated links to older CDs, I\u2019ve added Jerry Goldsmith\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5869\">Boys from Brazil<\/a><\/strong> (1978) and Miklos Rozsa\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5846\">El Cid<\/a><\/strong> (1961), + prior DVD reviews  of Samuel Bronston\u2019s <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5836\">Roman Empire<\/a> <\/strong>and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=5850\">El  Cid<\/a><\/strong> to the mobile site.<\/p>\n<p>Coming right up: review of Twilight Time\u2019s <strong>Enemy Mine <\/strong>Blu-ray, and film +  soundtrack reviews of <strong>Puppet on a Chain<\/strong>,  the underrated 1971 spy thriller which recently screened at the TIFF Bell  Lightbox, and is available on video via Scorpion Releasing.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark R.
