Pity, because it has all the ingredients  of a classic pre-Code Universal shocker plus silent German Expressionism in one  package, plus a wrestling battle to the death!<\/p>\n<p>This brilliantly compelling <strong>Frankenstein<\/strong> riff begins when a sleuthy reporter who takes on a  dangerous project and finds herself in danger of being the first victim of her  subject \u2013 a mad doctor bent on uglifying the world to his own sad state. Made  for nada but highly atmospheric, this is deservedly a lost classic, perhaps  known only to Mexican and Spanish audiences due to its apparent unavailability  to English-language viewers, and star Miroslava \u2013 a tragic screen icon whose  career began just as she committed suicide.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m keeping the next chunk of blogs brief, because the next  week will yield reviews of western scores, sci-fi scores, a composer podcast, and  reviews of Mark Cousins&#8217;\u00a0<strong>The Story of  Film: An Odyssey<\/strong>, Twilight Time titles, and Season 3 of Denmark\u2019s <strong>The Killing \/ Forbrydelsen<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Interpolating these reviews will be the promised test  footage of weird analogue video effects, with some header text outlining what  gear was used to create the graphic strangeness.
