{"id":7227,"date":"2013-11-04T19:09:29","date_gmt":"2013-11-05T00:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/?p=4490"},"modified":"2013-11-04T19:09:29","modified_gmt":"2013-11-05T00:09:29","slug":"grindhouse-releasing%e2%80%99s-delicious-corruption","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7227","title":{"rendered":"Grindhouse Releasing\u2019s Delicious Corruption"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Corruption1968.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4492\" title=\"Corruption1968\" src=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/Corruption1968.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"153\" \/><\/a>Grindhouse Releasing\u2019s Blu-ray-DVD combo edition of the little-seen, barely heard of shocker <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/dvd_reviews\/c\/4121_Corruption1968.htm\"><strong>Corruption<\/strong> <\/a>[<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7220\">M<\/a>] (1968) demonstrates there was more to Peter Cushing than the wiry, gentlemanly Dr. Frankenstein or period role he was often cast by Hammer and its like-minded indie producers.<\/p>\n<p>Although he reportedly took the role of a deranged surgeon who extracts pituitary glands to maintain his fianc\u00e9e\u2019s damaged beauty because of its present-day setting, I wonder if he was fully aware that he would not only decapitate two women, but manhandle the blood-stained boobs of one unfortunate hooker.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Corruption<\/strong> slowly develops into a tale of made love and devotion, not unlike fellow crazy surgeon shockers <strong>Eyes Without a Face<\/strong> (1969) and <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/dvd_reviews\/b\/3660_BrainThatWouldntDie.htm\">The Brain That Wouldn\u2019t Die<\/a> <\/strong>(1962), but being a product of the hip &amp; swinging London scene, it\u2019s also augmented by brilliantly stylish visuals, and an often inappropriate jazz lounge score that adds to the vintage British fromage factor.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve uploaded a review of what will likely be \/ should be a release nominated for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rondoaward.com\/\" >Rondo Award<\/a>, because this is one of the best restorations of 2013, packed with a multitude of historical and contextual extras.
