{"id":7505,"date":"2014-01-27T01:14:13","date_gmt":"2014-01-27T06:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/?p=4661"},"modified":"2014-01-27T01:14:13","modified_gmt":"2014-01-27T06:14:13","slug":"a-video-nasty-house-on-straw-hill-1976-plus-some-elio-petri-joseph-losey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7505","title":{"rendered":"A Video Nasty: House on Straw Hill (1976), plus some Elio Petri &amp; Joseph Losey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/HouseOnStrawHill_Ital_poster_s.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4662 alignleft\" title=\"HouseOnStrawHill_Ital_poster_s\" src=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/HouseOnStrawHill_Ital_poster_s.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"345\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">A few weeks ago I reviewed the 2005 documentary <\/span><a style=\"font-weight: normal;\" href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7446\"><strong>B<\/strong><\/a><a style=\"font-weight: bold;\" href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7446\"><strong>an the Sadist Videos!<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\"> which comes as a bonus DVD with the first 3000 copies of Severin&#8217;s 3-disc set of <\/span><a style=\"font-weight: normal;\" href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7481\"><strong>House on Straw Hill<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">, aka <\/span><a style=\"font-weight: normal;\" href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7481\"><strong>Expos\u00e9 <\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">(1976).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Just uploaded is a review of the headlining film which was among the original 70 films banned by the BBFC and retained in its smaller secondary tally of 30 films deemed too horrific, immoral, breasty-bloody, whatever by the Britain\u2019s censor board.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve also added two related reviews: from the KQEK.com archives, Joseph Losey\u2019s 1962 drama\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7487\"><strong>Eva <\/strong><\/a>\/ aka\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7487\"><strong>Eve <\/strong><\/a>(Kino), because it shares a similar premise of a celebrated artist (a writer) destroyed by a dark event and a scheming hottie. (It&#8217;s one of my early reviews, originally written for the long-defunct site Told You So, which specialized in assessing a release&#8217;s special features rather than the film itself. I&#8217;ll revisit the film in the future, and revise what&#8217;s plainly a mediocre review.)<\/p>\n<p>The second review is of Elio Petri\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7491\"><strong>A Quiet Place in the Country \/ Un tranquillo posto di campagna<\/strong><\/a>, in which a feted painter retires to a remote country villa to find inspiration during a creative dry spell, but may be going nuts due to supernatural forces.<\/p>\n<p>Petri\u2019s film is borderline horror-psychological thriller, and although it\u2019s available as a MGM MOD title in the U.S. and on DVD in Europe, this gem in experimental filmmaking is screaming for a proper Blu-ray issue. Maybe Criterion already has the film in its sights, since it released Petri\u2019s\u00a0<strong>Investigation of a Citizen Above Suspicion<\/strong>, his 1970 Oscar-winning drama.
