There’s a good handful of titles I’m keen on tracking down, but one I’d forgotten I’d seen is The Yellow Balloon<\/strong> (1953) by\u00a0Guns of Navarone<\/strong> (1961) director J. Lee Thompson, back when he was making character pieces before blockbusters. Naturally it’s not available on video here – I’m pretty sure I caught it when the CBC was airing a huge package of vintage British films from Thorn-EMI back around 1989 – so there’s another classic film to add to my wish list.<\/p>\n

Nice surprise: how many are available from Criterion, which means you should be able to track down some of these gems for rental & maybe purchase from the city’s indie stores, including Bay Street Video<\/a>, Eyesore Cinema<\/a>, or any of the local stores in your local ‘hood (nicely tallied in the Video Store Day directory<\/a>).<\/p>\n
