{"id":7907,"date":"2013-03-25T15:24:58","date_gmt":"2013-03-25T19:24:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/?p=3871"},"modified":"2013-03-25T15:24:58","modified_gmt":"2013-03-25T19:24:58","slug":"james-coburn-is-in-like-flint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=7907","title":{"rendered":"James Coburn is&#8230; In Like Flint!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Things Flinty:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/InLikeFlint_BR_b.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-3875\" title=\"InLikeFlint_BR_b\" src=\"http:\/\/mondomark.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/InLikeFlint_BR_b.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"157\" \/><\/a>On the one hand, it\u2019s a shame super spy Derek Flint only enjoyed two  feature films, but maybe Fox pulled out just as the spy spoof sub-genre was  running out of steam \u2013 especially when the owners of a legit James Bond  property chose to spoof the franchise in <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/dvd_reviews\/c\/2223_CasinoRoyale1967.htm\">Casino  Royale<\/a><\/strong> (1967).<\/p>\n<p>Star James Coburn likely wanted to move on to meaty dramatic roles, and  as the studio system was going down in flames, there were less glossy films  into which the Fox could plop young contract players, including those from TV.<\/p>\n<p>More than <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/dvd_reviews\/n2o\/2108_OurManFlint.htm\">Our Man Flint<\/a><\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=6273\">M<\/a>] (1966),  the sequel <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kqek.com\/dvd_reviews\/i\/2118_InLikeFlint.htm\">In Like Flint<\/a><\/strong> [<a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=6313\">M<\/a>] (1967)  is filled with fine character actors and newcomers, including some familiar  faces from Fox\u2019 <strong>Batman<\/strong> series, Paramount\u2019s <strong>Star Trek<\/strong>, and in Twilight Time\u2019s  extras gallery, there&#8217;s sultry Deanna Lund (<strong>Land  of the Giants<\/strong>), whose screen test revealed a genuine screen presence&#8230; but a  limited dramatic range; maybe it was the dialogue, or the heat from the  klieg lights.<\/p>\n<p>TT\u2019s Blu-ray looks and sounds great, and features all of the  extras from the prior Ultimate Flint boxed set from 2006,  plus an isolated stereo score track. I\u2019m still missing the TV movie that  remains exclusive to the set, though. <strong>Our Man Flint:  Dead on Target<\/strong> looks awful in the clips sampled within the featurettes, but  it\u2019s filled with CanCon fromage.<\/p>\n<p><em>Coming soon<\/em>: a wholly different editorial on <a href=\"http:\/\/starlighttv.com\/whatisthechannel\/\" target=\"_blank\">Starlight<\/a>, the proposed Canadian film channel recently discussed in rather traditional media columns.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark R.
