\"FilmMusicReviews_square_pic\"<\/a>Yes, we\u2019re halfway through April\u2019s first week and it\u2019s grey, raining, temperatures in the minus, and we\u2019ve yet to put our winter coats in sleeves for the summer, switching to light jackets and shoes.<\/p>\n

My boots are so well-worn from this &*$^)#!@^$ winter they lack treads on the heels (which themselves have been shaved down to 35 degree angles).<\/p>\n

With Hot Docs<\/a> 20 days away, that means we have about 3 weeks to reach temperatures to make the current environment look like this:<\/p>\n

That was April in 2013. Lovely, isn\u2019t it? If we\u2019re denied this in 20 days, the forecasters may be correct in proclaiming 2014\u2019s summer to be chiller than normal. That would blow blue donkeys, and I refuse to believe I\u2019ll still be wearing a heavy coat 4 weeks from today. At least they\u2019re forecasting 12 degrees + sun this Sunday, so perhaps this blacchy weather is a buildup to spring\u2019s formal launch.<\/p>\n

Moving forward, I\u2019ve uploaded the first set of soundtrack reviews, with another set + a composer podcast to follow shortly. The first trio includes Rolfe Kent\u2019s Bad Words<\/a> <\/strong>(Back Lot Music \/ Universal), Bear McCreary\u2019s Knights of Badassdom<\/a><\/strong> (Sparks & Shadows \/ La-La Land Records), and Tuomas Kantelinen\u2019s Legend of Hercules<\/a><\/strong> (Lionsgate).<\/p>\n

Also in the works: review of a great 2009 documentary on the Mellotron, featuring interviews with a huge assembly of musicians & composers, including Michael Penn, Fabio Frizzi, and Claudio Simonetti.<\/p>\n

Coming this weekend: review of Oliver!<\/strong> on Blu from Twilight Time, another installment of Nikkatsu Naughties, and other neat stuff.<\/p>\n
