The international success of the American sexual-misbehaviour-in-the-office comedy 9 to 5<\/b> (1980) spawned at least two porn variations: the American-made 8 to 4<\/b> (1981), and this 1982 Japanese effort where three women grow similarly fatigued with their egotistical boss, and after lengthy commiserating, exact the perfect revenge.<\/p>\n

Veteran Nikkatsu director Katsuhiko Fujii shot a substantial amount of material in a real office, which adds an unusual level of verisimilitude to an otherwise silly group of oversexed characters. In addition to having an affair with her married boss Makimura (sleazy Junichiro Yamashita), newly hired manager Chieko Kuwano (I Love It from Behind<\/b><\/a>\u2019s Junko Asahina) moonlights as a pimp for other executives, while her boss has affairs with other office women, including secretary Mari (Nami Misaki).<\/p>\n

Being a Nikkatsu production, the film\u2019s politically incorrect material includes offensive dialogue (\u201cIt\u2019s wrong being a woman\u201d), a Yankee executive diddling a virgin, boss Makimura aggressively boffing his emotionally restricted wife (Yuki Yoshizawa) with a cruel grin, and Chieko and the wife helping Mari recover from a recent gang assault in an office lavatory.<\/p>\n

Prior to hatching their revenge scheme against Makimura, the three women engage in a bathroom catfight and later some living room girl-girl interaction. The film\u2019s finale \u2013 an orgy of sorts aided by some potent \u2018Indian cream\u2019 which makes its \u2018electrified\u2019 host go Bam!<\/i> \u2013 at least gives sexual and corporate power back to the women, and the entire misadventure is wrapped up with the film\u2019s daffy disco theme song (\u201cKeep on Dancin\u2019\u201d).<\/p>\n

The acting is appropriately broad and the adult scenes often feature clusters of arms and legs poking and folded in awkward positions, but it\u2019s that uneven blend of humour, titillation, and wrongness which makes this effort a little unsettling. The film\u2019s added weirdness factor comes from casting an American performer as an executive with a taste for virgins who looks a lot like a baby-faced Dave Foley (News Radio<\/b>) in a bad wig and pasted-on mustache.<\/p>\n

Impulse Pictures\u2019 DVD features a clean transfer and a teaser trailer which includes some deleted and alternate takes. Jasper Sharp\u2019s liner notes provide more of an overview of Nikkatsu\u2019s unusual talent pool, which sometimes included former legit singers, such as Asahina, who chose a career in adult films after starting off as a theatrical revue performer and TV actress.<\/p>\n
