{"id":9494,"date":"2014-08-26T01:30:48","date_gmt":"2014-08-26T05:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=9494"},"modified":"2014-08-26T20:48:35","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T00:48:35","slug":"a-tale-of-two-born-yesterdays","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=9494","title":{"rendered":"A Tale of Two Born Yesterdays"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BornYesterday1950_BR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-9490\" alt=\"BornYesterday1950_BR\" src=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/BornYesterday1950_BR.jpg\" width=\"120\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a>Twilight Time&#8217;s release of the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kqek.com\/mobile\/?p=9487\">Born Yesterday<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>(1950) on Blu-ray kind of mandated a need to check out both George Cukor&#8217;s original film and Luis Mandoki&#8217;s 1993 version (from Buena Vista \/ Disney) starring Melanie Griffith, Don Johnson, and John Goodman in the roles previously inhabited by Judy Holliday, William Holden, and Broderick Crawford.<\/p>\n<p>The 1993 isn&#8217;t especially good &#8211; it&#8217;s a big steaming misfire packed with miscalculations &#8211; and in the long &amp; windy review I try to address why it fumbles so badly right from the start, whereas the 1950 film remains so potent.<\/p>\n<p>I would love to see Kanin&#8217;s own 1956 live TV version, but that&#8217;s perhaps an impossibility.
