Soundtrack Reviews

FilmMusicReviews_square_picBack after a short break, with another set of soundtrack reviews, featuring Trevor Rabin and Paul Linford’s solid score for the TV series version of Terry Gilliam’s classic film 12 Monkeys (Varese Sarabande,) featuring a very different palette of sounds that should please Rabin fans.

Also from Varese is a reissue of Rod McKuen’s own release of his songs from A Boy Named Charlue Brown, a few instrumental cues, and tracks from McKuen’s best-known film scores.

Lastly, a review of Bloodborne (Sumthing Else) that features a frankly awesome score from the Sony video game. Multiple composers contributed cues, but Ryan Amon crafted the main theme that’s presented in robust orchestral versions. A great album with very potent thematic material.

Coming very shortly: a series of cluster film reviews, starting with Richard Stanley’s Hardware (1990) and the superb doc Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau (2014), both in loaded Blu-ray special editions from Severin.

Coming tight after are reviews of Breaking Away (1979) on Blu from Twilight Time + American Flyers (1985) from Warner Home Video.

Cheers,
