ArtScopeTO 06: Interview with Abstract Painter Donna Wise

December 6, 2017 | By

December’s edition of ArtScopeTO features a Q&A with Toronto-based abstract painter Donna Wise, and her series Flights of Fancy, which runs until Sat. Dec. 30 at The Urban Gallery (400 Queen Street East).

A key abstract work in Donna Wise’s Flights of Fancy series, showcased at The Urban Gallery (400 Queen St. East). The exhibit runs until Sat. Dec. 30, 2017.

Perhaps the most imposing aspect when the canvases are first seen is their size and scope – grand, elegant, and exquisitely balanced. Wise’s circular abstract patterns float over deep singular colours or creamy backgrounds, and the patterns themselves are almost three-dimensional due to their tactile design.

Three-dimensional sample of my favourite work, with Wise’s ‘Trinitron blue’ strokes that radiate the colours of analogue video.

My interview with Donna Wise (http://donnawiseart.com/) covers her entry into abstract painting, methodology, patterns, and inspirations, and the podcast is available on Google Play, iTunes, Libsyn, and YouTube, and her work can be seen until Saturday December 30 at The Urban Gallery, 400 Queen Street East.

Special thanks to Glenda Fordham at Fordham P.R. for facilitating the interview. See Fordham’s blog for additional photos and a video tour.
